This started life as a 'for sale' page, but
I was never serious and eventaully decided
to keep it. Then in the spring of 2001
I decided it was time for it's annual test.
When I got the old test certificate out I
realised it was 18 months old and in that
time the Skorpion had done 100 miles. However
much I loved having this bike in the garage
I decided that common sense had to prevail
in the autumn I passed it over to friends
with a bike dealership who sold it for me.
(Thanks guys at Denver Garage, near Downham
Market, Norfolk - a terrific team, highly
recommended if you are in the area - or you
want a racing single !)
I do believe that the Skorpion deserves to
become a design classic and I hope its new
owner is enjoying it in the way for which
I never found the time.
It was new October 1995 (N reg.), I bought it via a dealer with only one one previous owner. It was always a weekends and evenings plaything. Even when I sold it at 6 years old it had under 6,000km on the clock.
Standard condition, with one or two little tweaks (eg fast action throttle - the previous owner was an engineer at Jaguar and machined a new throttle quadrant).
It's a nice bike to ride, let down by not having as much go as it looks. The engine is very restricted by that oversize silencer and its air filtration. I have been told by a man who knows about these things that all Skorpions left the factory set up for Switzerland, because this is the most restrictive market in the world, therefore they could be sold anywhere.
On the road handling was excellent but quite
often I was speeding along, would look at
the speedo and discover I was going slower
than I thought ! But maybe that's no
bad thing in this day and age !!
